Rob Govier of The MHI Group was extremely helpful in helping me obtain a mortgage and realize my dream of owning a “piso” in Valencia!

Although I have a good income and excellent credit back home, I had three strikes working against me: I am self-employed (rentista), I’m a non-resident (although I do have dual citizenship, American and Spanish), and I currently have THREE outstanding mortgages in the United States! Which is why FIVE Spanish banks had denied me a mortgage before I met Rob. My debt-to-income ratios could certainly be stronger, and the conventional banks counted only HALF of my NY-based rental income as qualifying income!

Enter Rob G. He suggested I apply for a mortgage with a credit union instead of a conventional bank. That worked! I can’t say the process was easy — it’s a bit grueling. But Rob communicated well with me throughout, keeping me informed and explaining the quirks of buying real estate in Spain, and I felt he advocated on my behalf.
